Champoeg is a big Oregon State Parks campground on the Willamette, 47 minutes from Portland and Salem, on the meadow where settlers voted 52 to 50 in 1843 to form Oregon’s first provisional government. Paved RV loops, six tent sites, yurts and cabins, hot showers, and a four-mile bike trail along the river to Butteville.
The two loops feel different. A Loop sits under big oaks and maples, shady in summer and gold in October; B Loop is open lawn, with hedges and shrubs between the sites. B Loop, the yurts and the cabins are open all year; A Loop closes for the season.
